I am from Tokyo, Japan. This little bit of information is important because I’m from probably the best place to eat ramen in the world (I am also very biased). I make ramen at home but it’s a LOT of work. So naturally, I’m constantly on the hunt for a great place to eat a bowl of ramen. I had heard about this place, DOMU, opening a little over a year ago in Jacksonville. I wanted to come here for an early Mother’s Day meal because it looks so good! This is the second DOMU shop, I think. The first shop opened in Orlando in 2016 and is really popular. Chef and owner, Sean “Sonny” Nguyen also owns a Japanese bar in Orlando called “Tori Tori” as well.
I really enjoy this interior. The huge koi mural gives me serious Harajuku vibes and I could stare at it all day.
He ordered the Shoyu Chicken Ramen. According to the site: SHOYU CHICKEN BROTH, FRIED CHICKEN THIGH, AJITAMA BRULEE, KIKURAGE, SEARED GARLIC CHIVES, INFUSED DUCK FAT, GARLIC SCALLION CONFIT
I’m pretty sure I had the Black Tonkotsu Ramen (next time I’ll write it down). According to the website, the Black Tonkotsu Ramen is: SHIO PORK BONE BROTH, MENMA, SCALLIONS, AJITAMA, CHASHU, BLACK GARLIC + KOMI OIL
We really enjoyed it! Side note: I love my husband, but the picture I took of him was way better, haha.
The staff offered the kid a cute, little sample of the ice cream. Us parents got one each too. This flavor was Cookie Monster. It had a tasty cereal-esque flavor and the Cookie Crisp cereal gave us serious childhood in the 90s nostalgia.
The take away: The ramen was tasty and I would legitimately go out of my way for the ice cream. The staff was crazy nice and we all had a great time! The noodles are made from scratch and you can really tell that they care about the food. Definitely worth a visit!
